Post Natal Personal Trainer
Have you recently had a baby and want to get back into shape as soon as possible?
Perhaps you have decided the you won’t be having any more children and are therefore totally ready to get back to you pre-children weight without having to worry about getting pregnant and putting on weight again?
Many women accept that once you’ve had children you can never get back to the weight/figure that you had before. You don’t have to accept this, and I certainly don’t accept in for my post pregnancy personal training clients.
There is no physical reason why you can’t look even better than you did when you were younger and before you had children. The truth is through a combination of factors a lot of women never do regain their former figure;
1/ Pregnancy and childbirth obviously has a pretty large scale effect on your body! Your body has to adapt to feeding more than just you, so it gets used to storing and using more food as energy. Therefore when you have given birth another adjustment has to be made, and in the short term this can mean your body continuing to store more food as it thinks it will need the energy. Obviously as it no longer does, unless you use the energy it gets stored as fat.
But the good news is it doesn’t have to be this way and through the correct dietary and more importantly exercise regime you can ‘re-balance’ your body in no time.
2/ For most women your muscle mass drops during pregnancy. This is mostly just because your activity levels are lower and you are not engaging in the sort of exercise you were before. The lower your muscle mass, the lower your metabolism. The lower your metabolism the less calories you can eat without gaining weight. Loss of muscle mass is one of the main reasons people say they can’t get away with eating as much as they used to. Even without pregnancy you lose a pound of muscle a year (on average) after the age of 30 (unless you do something about it).
But again the good news is through the right exercise program (with a post natal personal trainer!) you can get your muscle mass back where it needs to be, boosting your metabolism meaning you don’t have to work so hard to lose weight.
3/ The main reason women don’t regain their former weight is acceptance of their situation/ reluctance to take action. It’s easy to just accept that for ‘reasons beyond your control’ you ‘can’t’ ever look the way you used to. By accepting that fact you are essentially allowing yourself not to take the steps necessary to overcome it.
As I stated above there are reasons why you will find it harder to lose weight than you did before. But as I also stated above these reasons will only affect you in the short term and won’t mean you remain overweight in the long-term IF you don’t he right things to counteract them.
So as long as you don’t resign yourself to ‘never looking the same again’ there really is no reason why you won’t.
I work regularly with post-natal personal training clients and know firstly, the best methods to achieve fast, effective weight loss, and secondly, know you to account for the fact you have recently had a baby and therefore have to be careful working certain muscle groups and doing certain exercises.
