Why Your Weight Won't Shift

If you approach weight loss from a purely scientific point of view, in order to lose weight you simply have to burn more calories than you take in. So If you cut calorie intake to 1200/1500 a day and increase calorie burn to 2000 a day, you are creating a calorie deficit and will lose weight. That’s how it works from a scientific standpoint and how it works for most people. But for some people, and I have worked with clients with this problem, they are definitely creating a calorie deficit but the weight won’t shift at the rate it should be. If this sounds like you, your body is probably storing fat as its either lacking in something and/or has a hormone imbalance. Here is how you can overcome it;

1/ Fat in your diet. Because fat carries quite a lot of calories, people tend to cut it out almost completely when trying to lose weight. That’s a big mistake. Fat is an absolutely essential nutrient for the body and depriving yourself of it will result in your body struggling to operate efficiently, an imbalance of hormone levels, a slow metabolism and the storing of your existing body fat. Of course the type of fat is important, but try to get a bit in each meal you eat. For example, milk with breakfast, a few seeds with lunch, a few nuts as a snack, a little avacado in your salads, and oily fish once a week. So make sure you are eating fat little and often and your body will burn fat much more efficiently.

2/ Drink 2 litres of water a day. Failure to properly hydrate your body means it cannot work as efficiently as it should. Storing fat is a common response.

3/ Cutting out carbs completely. I’m the first to tell my clients a low carb diet is the best way to lose weight. But some people cut it out completely to the point where they don’t eat certain fruits and vegetables. This is not healthy for your body and although may result in initial weight loss will not continue over the the long term.

4/ Lack of sleep. Not as easy to solve as the previous points, but your body gets its rest and carries out vital tasks while you sleep. Failure to get enough is proven to prevent weight loss.

Today’s Takeaway – Give you body all the nutrients it needs and it will repay you with the weight loss you deserve.
